Songs that lend a voice to the equestrian world in a way only music can.

In the 1990’s, grunge band Nirvana defined the mood of a generation by dramatically smashing guitars to smithereens. Those days are gone. Today, dream pop group Real Estate is presenting a more subtle approach to destruction with the help of one very talented horse.

The music video for Real Estate’s latest track, “Darling,” features a horse slowly and systematically distracting the band and destroying a set, in all those sneaky little ways we equestrians know a horse can. It’s just a nudge here, a lick there, and one good sneeze that bring the whole thing down. Watching the horse work this way is oddly mesmerizing.

The star upstaging the musicians in the video is a palomino thoroughbred stallion, appropriately named Like No Other. Not only is Like No Other (aka Moose)’s color and breed pairing incredibly unusual, he is also uncommonly docile for a stallion. Moose willingly rode a freight elevator to reach the set at Pier 59 in New York City!

Moose is owned by Ashley Waller and trained by noted Hollywood horse trainer out of New York, Cari Swanson. Swanson’s other well known works include the feature film “Winter’s Tale,” where she worked with Russell Crowe and Colin Farrell, as well as the Cinemax series “The Knick.”

Outsider video collective Weird Days, which combines the talents of Alex Goldberg, Drew Blatman, and Ben Schechter, brought their unwavering dedication to the unconventional to bear in their beautiful direction of this video.   It completely captures the curiosity and cunning of an intelligent equine.

At this point, it’s unclear whether Moose will become a full time of the group, but he is seen donning a bass by the end of the song, and he is also featured on the Real Estate website. Either way, Moose is definitely destined for stardom!
