You have to hand it to the creators of the Longines Masters. A few years ago they looked around the world of modern showjumping and thought to themselves, “This sport just is not nearly fancy enough!” This thought flashed through my mind as I peered from the pressroom over the Los Angeles Masters arena today, and murmured, “I have to know if the Jobs horse can beat the Speilberg horse?” (For inquiring minds, the Jobs horse won.)
The Los Angeles Masters serves as the American leg of the Masters Grand Slam Indoor series, which also includes the already prestigious European leg, the Gucci Masters in Paris, and the Asian leg, the Longines Masters in Hong Kong, which premiered in 2013. The event attracts the best in the show jumping business from around the world, including the likes of Scott Brash, Beezie Madden, Rodrigo Pessoa, and celebrity up and comers, like Georgina Bloomberg, Jessica Springsteen, and Jennifer Gates.
As advertised, the Masters combines the spectacular sporting action of elite show jumping with the very best of lifestyle and entertainment. Buy your latest Gucci bag, Longines watch and Maui Jim sunglasses here, along side top market equestrian products in pop-up style stores that could easily compete on Rodeo Drive. Then take a stroll through onsite art exhibits courtesy of the Opera Gallery. The modern artworks of André Brasilier, Federico Uribe and Vanessa von Zitzewitz are on hand just to name a few.
Still not fancy enough? Allow two Michelin-star chef, Yves Mattagne, to provide you with a unique feast each evening at your $25,000 VIP table and be sure to make a dent in the 2,000 plus bottles of Champagne.
Even the horses travel in style. Transportation from abroad is provided on a private jet. In the stabling area they walk upon a red carpet and have their own paparazzi moment. For the lucky winners, the kitchen also provides the best organic carrots!
By now I think you get the picture. The Masters in Los Angeles is the crème de la crème in a world where the “crème” is not in short order. It is my unique pleasure to report on all the fanfare in this four-day event on now through Sunday, October 4, 2015. Please stay posted for all the decadence that you can digest!
