Songs that lend a voice to the equestrian world in a way only music can.
In the inaugural playlist for 100% Sound, I highlighted Mumford & Sons’ front man, Marcus Mumford’s great appreciation of the horse and the horsing life. Today, I am very pleased to report that with their latest album, Wilder Mind, Mumford & Sons continues to show love for our favorite creatures!
The latest single from the album, entitled “Ditmas,” is supported by a music video that follows a Ukrainian Cossack named Evigeniy as he tames and teaches a wild horse. The Cossacks are in fact revered for their excellent horsemanship throughout history, and even today carry on their traditions through public performances.
Director Alex Southam traveled to the scenic countryside surrounding Kiev to shoot the music video, and plucked Evigeniy from the Cossack community to serve as the star.
Southam recalls “I spent a long time discussing our narrative and approach with Evgeniy, breaking down our narrative beat, as well as I could given the language barrier. Whilst the shoot was pretty brutal and unforgiving – particularly for our hero – we captured something really special.”
See for yourself!
Mumford & Sons are also showing much love for the horse in their latest apparel offerings, which include this lovely Pegasus logo. Click on the picture to purchase this t-shirt and other merchandise with similar flare!
Keep up the good work, Mumford & Sons!
