Songs that lend a voice to the equestrian world in a way only music can.
Coachella 2015 is on and it’s as thoroughly crazy for equestrian as ever! Here’s why:
1. Those Empire Polo Club Fields
For music lovers the world around, the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California, are known as the magical location of the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. But us horse fanatics know that, as the name suggests, these fields are also home to some fabulous polo matches.
2. Hay Bales Are A Seating Option
Just like at the stable, at Coachella hay bales are a perfect place to take a load off – or even to build an incomparable hay fort!
3. The Footing is Either Grass or Sand
At Coachella, festival-goers are treated to the two equestrian footings of choice – grass and sand. And the trucks that usually water the arenas even do double duty during the festival to keep dust down for the crowds.
4. Attire Is All About The Boots And Hats
Coachella may be slated as just a music and arts festival, but its third partner is certainly fashion. And boot and hats are all the rage, particularly of the cowboy variety. How does that expression go? When in horse country, dress like a horseback rider – or maybe a horse!
5. H&M Loves Horses AND Coachella
Coachella and equestrian sport share a high profile sponsor in global ready-to-wear brand, H&M. “We Love Horses” is the name of the sponsorship campaign that has been backing Swedish show jumpers Malin Baryard-Johnsson since 1996 and Peder Fredricson since 2003. Meanwhile, for many years now H&M has curated a special collection for the music festival and hosted a tent and pop ups on the grounds.
6. Dogs Are Welcome
Equestrians love dogs almost as much as their horses. And so does Coachella, well, at least in the artistic sense. This dog was given super star status!
7. And There Are Horses of Courses!
A Band Of Horses, Foals, and Sparklehorse to be exact! So many of Coachella’s many great acts are named after horses or evoke that equestrian spirit. And of course there was this crazy dancing pony that took the stage with Santigold in 2012!
I rest my case!
