Top Ten All Time Best Original Song Nominees For Horse Lovers_edited-1The 87th Academy Awards are just around the bend, making it the perfect time to celebrate the equestrian best of Academy Awards past! In this playlist, discover the top 10 all-time best, original song nominees for horse lovers.

The journey begins where you might expect—in the old west. The western was a staple of early Academy Award-nominated performances, and best songs were no exception. The first four tracks of this playlist will give you a flavor.

From there, things get a bit more fun with “Blazing Saddles” from the hilarious Mel Brooks movie of the same name. Sure, this is a western song, but definitely don’t take it too seriously! And then there was “Blaze of Glory” by Bon Jovi. Jon turned those cowboys into rock stars in one stroke of his electric guitar. What’s not to love about that?

The next three songs provide soulful tracks from exceedingly talented singer/songwriters. First up is the memorable theme from iconic horse film, The Horse Whisper. Next is Glen Hansard performing “Falling Slowly,” with Markéta Irglová for the film Once. Before you say, “Wait a minute.  That’s not a horse song!” I have a defense. Mr. Hansard’s famously beat up guitar is lovingly called “The Horse,” and that horse is all over this film!

Songwriter extraordinaire and horseback rider, Ryan Bingham, also appears on the playlist with his wonderful 2009 Academy Award-winning tune, “The Weary Kind,” which he handcrafted for Crazy Heart. And the playlist closes with the nominated song “Coming Home,” from Country Strong. And there you have it—my top 10 all-time best, original song nominees for horse lovers!
