Down to the Wire races to deliver the latest Equine and Equestrian news to Counter-Canter Culture
Hundreds of holiday-decorated horses (and mules and donkeys and ponies too!) will march down the streets of Lisbon today, in one of Maryland’s best holiday family events.
The Lisbon Christmas Horse Parade is an adorable annual event for a worthy cause. It raises food and money for the food banks of Howard and Carroll Counties, as well as the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department. In 2013, the parade raised over $8,500 for the local food banks and $2,000 for the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department!
For spectators, the parade is free, although good Christmas karma suggests that you should come armed with donations of dry and canned goods or cash. Most of the charitable funds are raised from entry fees and sponsorships.
If you are in the Maryland area today, grab a chair and head on over to Lisbon to see some 500 or more equines all decked out in holiday style! And be sure to hang around after the parade. There will be Pony Rides and a Country Ham & Fried Chicken Dinner in the Fire Hall. Sounds festive indeed!
