James Blunt On Horseback Banner

These days English singer-songwriter James Blunt doesn’t take himself too seriously. Once best known for singing the heartbreaking lines “but it’s time to face the truth – I will never be with you,” in his megahit “You’re Beautiful,” Blunt is now almost as well known for his trolling habits on Twitter. For example, Blunt had this to say when he and Katy Perry went head-to-head last year for the UK’s number one album:

So when he recently told reporters that he looks like a Barbie Doll on a big pink horse in his latest music video, it’s not clear whether he’s making a joke or not. But inquiring Counter-Canter Culture minds had to know! So we did some digging. And, oh boy, did we turn up some fun stuff!

FACT: The recently married James Blunt took time off from his honeymoon in Spain to film a western-themed music video for his latest single, “When I Find Love Again.”

FACT: The horse he rode in the music video is an albino who does indeed turn completely pink when sweating, not unlike Barbie’s famous steed. See for your self in this on set shots from The Daily Mail: Not Just Horsing Around!

But the fun doesn’t stop there!

FACT: James Blunt was quite sore after his day in the saddle since he hadn’t ridden a horse since leaving the army twelve years ago. Wait a minute? Was he a cavalry officer in a past life?

FACT: Yes! Twelve years ago, before turning to a life of successful music making, James Blunt was an officer in the Life Guards, a cavalry regiment of the British Army. And after an intensive six-month army riding course, he was posted to the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment in London, England. He even stood guard at the coffin of the Queen Mother during the days of her lying in State and was part of the funeral procession on 9 April 2002.

I mean, who knew! This gives a whole new meaning to those Household Cavalry Musical Rides! And now we can all see James Blunt give a “musical ride” once again in his latest music video, “When I Find Love Again.” Enjoy!
