Horses of Honor
DNAinfo Chicago is one of many sources highlighting the upcoming Horses of Honor – an installation of 50-plus horse statues decorated by local and international artists to be placed along the Magnificent Mile this September.
The purpose is to raise money for the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.
“’What they do is they raise money for police officers who are killed in the line of duty, or who are catastrophically injured,’ Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said Tuesday at a news conference in the CPD headquarters building.”
Next to McCarthy is “Sacrifice” a statue painted to realistically resemble the actual police horses used in Chicago. The names of six severely injured police officers are featured on the horse. Money raised by the auction sale of Sacrifice and the other statues will be used to pay for rehabilitation and other necessary care of the injured as well as supplying college funds for the children of fallen officers.
