From Ford To Country Music: The Faster Horses Music Festival

Songs that lend a voice to the equestrian world in a way only music can.

Henry Ford Quote

Henry Ford, father of the automobile, is often quoted as saying, “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.” Whether or not he actually uttered these words is the subject of serious debate, but Ford’s involvement in the evolution from the horse as our primary mode of transportation to the car is not. From the moment the first Model T came off the line in the early 1900s, the horses’ place in society was forever changed.

While these “faster horses” may have been the true desire of the masses, the mystique of riding a horse continued to thrive in song – particularly in those tunes we now lump together under the heading country music.

All of this history was spinning around in the head of Live Nation Concert Promote Brian O’Connell when he decided to bring a country music fest to the state where Ford built his empire. And just like that the Faster Horses Music Festival was born.

2013, the inaugural year of the festival, featured entertainment included big time country stars like Luke Bryan, some lesser known acts like the aptly named Colt Ford, and impressive horse vaulting and drill team performances brought to Faster Horses by the non-profit Camp Casey. Here are some Camp Casey riders in action at the festival!

Returning this year are the big and up and coming names in country music, the 40-foot water slide and the foam pool.   But it’s unclear whether the equestrian entertainment will return other than maybe this guy.

I, for one say, let’s keep the equestrian aspects of the Faster Horses Music Festival alive! Even if we can‘t have four hooves on the grounds, then let’s at least appreciate the artists whose tunes will be keeping the Faster Horses Music Festival equestrian this year. Stay tuned to 100% Sound for a playlist that does just that in the Saturday column.

In the meantime, you can preview the festival artists in this 2014 Faster Horses Music Festival Promo video. Enjoy!
