Equine Art 2014

“Running on Air” by Joe MacKechnie

July 11 – 13 are the dates for the Washington Thoroughbred Foundation’s show “Equine Art 2014” at Emerald Downs. Last year’s winner (shown above) was Joe MacKechnie’s “Running on Air” and it was subsequently featured on the  Fall 2013 issue of Washington Thoroughbred Magazine and awarded first place in the open illustration category at the 2014 American Horse Publications Annual Awards contest according to The Enumclaw Courier-Herald.

The Washington Thoroughbred Foundation’s website states:  “The purpose of the show is to encourage equine artists and to support the arts, in general, as an integral part of all horse-related sports. The annual art show has garnered recognition since its inception in 1980 at the WTBOA Sales Pavilion at Longacres. In 2014, we celebrate our 15th year of continued growth and success at Emerald Downs. The show offers over $5,000 in prize money, $750 of which is dedicated to youth categories. It is judged by a respected panel of distinguished artists and/or other knowledgeable individuals. “

Additionally, in 2015 the Foundation is going to sponsor a $2500 “Scholarship for the Arts, the Horse and a Whole Lot More.”
