Keep Calm and Dub On With DJ P0N 3

100 Sound Logo Final

Songs that lend a voice to the equestrian world in a way only music can.

Way back in the 1940’s a plucky little pegasus made equine music video history by being a featured performer in the Disney animated feature, “Fantasia.” In a story entitled “Equine Music Videos: An Origin Story,” 100% Sound paid homage to the contributions of this mystical equine throughout the succeeding years. But how are modern musical horses fairing today?

Answer: Awesome as ever! Thanks in large part to the popularity of the animated television series, “My Little Ponies: Friendship Is Magic,” and the cult following of background unicorn pony, Vinyl Scratch, better known by her stage name DJ P0N 3. Here she is in all her glory!

DJ P0N 3 is modeled after the likes of Daft Punk, Deadmau5 and Skrillex. And she is every bit as amazing, from her trademark shades to her cool demeanor. She’s even been spotted in companion works, singing her own rendition of The Beatles’ “Drive My Car” and spending time with super star electronic music duo Daft Punk, as ponies of course.

And then there are her music videos. DJ P0N 3 is generally depicted as a dubstep or electronic dance music DJ for all occasions in Equestria, the magical town of the My Little Ponies, as well as a great music fan in general. In the Hasbro Studio Short, “Music To My Ears,” DJ P0N 3 is seen as half pony – half girl, giving her entire world a soundtrack through her headphones.

This video was then reedited by a My Little Pony fan who took things up a few more decibels.

There is even a real life Czech DJ who goes by the name of “VinylScratchDJPony,” and produces videos with songs dedicated to or impersonating DJ P0N 3. Since his YouTube account was created in May 2012, it’s received nearly 5 million views and his official Facebook page has over 17,000 likes. It’s his song, “Vinylicious” you hear in the reedited video above.

It’s pretty clear that DJ P0N 3 is the coolest pony on the block. And this bodes well for the future of horses and music in general. If record-spinning My Little Pony can be the first background character from “Friendship Is Magic” to be officially included in the toy line, then who’s to say that all the real dancing horses can’t experience a similar explosion in popularity if they would only sharpen up their music selections?

So I say keep calm and dub on with DJ P0N 3 into the absolutely limitless future of horses and music!
