We pretend to go to the horse show but everyone really knows it’s a circus!
Bring on the clowns! And the horses too!
Every Friday Counter-Canter Culture features the important US and International Horse Shows currently under way.
Blenheim Spring Classic Series 2014
This week marks week two of the Blenheim Spring Classic at the lovely The Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park in San Juan Capistrano, California. The Blenheim Spring Classic is primarily a hunter rider horse show, but the featured events include two $40,000 Grand Prix Jumping competitions and a US Hunter Jumper Association Derby event.
Sunday, April 6th, will see the $40,000 Spring Classic II Grand Prix presented by the Orange County Register. Competitors will face a challenging course on the Blenheim International Field. Last week’s $40,000 Spring Classic Grand Prix, presented by The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel was clinched by Brazilian Josephina Nor Lantzman and Chello Z. Check out both of her rounds on the way to the win in the video below, and get the blow by blow of this competition here.
The other notable feature of this week’s competition is the addition for the first time of the $10,000 Scarlett’s Derby. The Derby honors the memory of Scarlett Danielle Rodriguez, and features not only world-class equestrian competition but also an after party with Argentinian Asado BBQ and the techno beat of DJ Alek Carerra. What a pleasure it must be to see some equestrians getting down to techno beats!
Blenheim’s April events continue with week three of the Spring Series, including the highlight classes: the inaugural $25,000 Markel Insurance Grand Prix Qualifier on Thursday, April 10th, the $10,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby on Friday, April 11th, and the $50,000 Blenheim Spring Classic III Grand Prix, presented by EquiFit, Inc. on Saturday, April 12th.
