We pretend to go to the horse show but everyone really knows it’s a circus!
Bring on the clowns! And the horses too!
Every Friday Counter-Canter Culture features the important US and International Horse Shows currently under way.
The Sunshine Tour 2014
The Sunshine Tour – it sounds like something those still suffering record winter cold and snow are praying for. But actually it’s Europe’s answer to the Wellington Equestrian Festival, and its on now in southern Spain. This five week, world-class event plays host to jumping and dressage classes for competitors from some forty or more different countries.
The competition began on February 28 and runs through March 23. Thus far, Great Britain’s William Whitaker is a big winner with two Grand Prixes under his belt. Here he is aboard his mount Fandango for the win.
The facilities for The Sunshine Tour aren’t too shabby either. The equestrian center in Dehesa Montenmedio is specially designed for international and national competitions with 1300 permanent stables, 11 training and competition arenas, an eventing course, a driving obstacle course, parking for 250 trucks and trailers, a village area and restaurants.
It seems that everything is sunshine and rainbows for the lucky competitors at The Sunshine Tour. If you’d like to catch a piece of the action, the official website offers live streaming and online results here.
