We pretend to go to the horse show but everyone really knows it’s a circus!
Bring on the clowns! And the horses too!
Every Friday Counter-Canter Culture features the important US and International Horse Shows currently under way.
Gothenburg Horse Show 2014 and Eurohorse
Things are heating up inside the Scandinavium Arena thanks to Sweden’s Gothenburg Horse Show. This year Gothenburg hosts an impressive Reem Acra FEI World Cup™ Dressage event on Saturday evening as well as Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping on Sunday afternoon. Not to mention being accompanied by Eurohorse, Scandinavia’s biggest equestrian fair.
We at Counter-Canter Culture are excited for these big name events, but what we really want to introduce you to are the smaller events that make Gothenburg such a unique affair. First are the Mounted Games, which took place on Wednesday and Thursday, and will be seen once again on Saturday afternoon. Mounted Games is the international name for what we know as Gymkhana. At Gothenburg it involves four teams from England, France and Sweden competing in various disciplines that go by the names such as slalom, mug move, and sock and sword. Take a look at what this involves!
Gothenburg is also home once again to “Fjordingar.” In this event two esteemed teams compete on Fjords in three disciplines: dressage, driving and jumping. When the event first took place in 2012, even top German show jumper Ludger Beerbaum got in on the action! The entire event can be appreciated in these photographs.
If you are craving even more Fjords, you can head over to YouTube for a series of videos from the 2012 competition. And be sure to visit FEI TV on Saturday and Sunday for live coverage of Gothenburg dressage and jumping.
