We pretend to go to the horse show but everyone really knows it’s a circus!
Bring on the clowns! And the horses too!
Every Friday Counter-Canter Culture features the important US and International Horse Shows currently under way.
59th Annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show & Shopping Expo
The 58th Annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse show is on now through February 24th at the wonderful revamped WestWorld equestrian center. Billed as the world’s largest Arabian show, this massive ten day event in Scottsdale, Arizona, plays host to some 2,400 horses, 600 competitive classes in nearly every discipline, and approximately 300,000 attendees.
To give a better idea of the scale of this event, consider that its economic impact is estimated to be between $52-$58 million (based on 2010 data), the horse show attracts more people than the Tostito Fiesta Bowl. That’s right – this show outshines a football bowl game!
So what is everyone flocking to Scottsdale to see? Let this promo for the event give you hint.
New this year is the completed expansion project at WestWorld’s Equidome, now known as the Tony Nelssen Equestrian Center, with renovation that include the addition of a climate-controlled multi-use floor for stalls, arenas or trade booths, an indoor warm-up ring, suites, party rooms and enhanced spectator amenities. Now competitors and spectators alike can beat the Arizona heat in style.
Barn Tours and shopping at the more than 300 vendors around the show grounds continue to be the top draw at the show. Many people come just for the opportunity to have a behind-the-scenes look at horse care, competition and the Arabian breed’s distinct characteristics or to walk with bags brimming with equestrian products.
