Travel Through The Sounds Of Sand And Snow This Weekend

Songs that lend a voice to the equestrian world in a way only music can.

In this week’s playlist from 100% Sound, There Is Magic Waiting In The Winter, we discovered that some artists who write beautiful songs about the wintertime actually have to escape the weather for inspiration.  A Silent Film and Death Cab For Cutie are two prime examples.

A Silent Film – “Danny, Dakota & the Wishing Well”

A Silent Film escaped English rain in favor of the Arizona desert in order to write their album, Sand & Snow.  While the playlist song, “Rustle Of The Stars” highlighted their snowy side, this video for “Danny, Dakota & The Wishing Well” revels in their sandy southwestern side.  Horses, and bulls and rodeo, oh my!  It’s so much fun to see these English lads go country.

Death Cab For Cutie – “Stay Young, Go Dancing”

Meanwhile, famously melancholy indie outfit, Death Cab For Cutie, managed to put out a sunny album with Codes and Keys, when lead singer Ben Gibbard migrated from Seattle to Los Angeles.  Playlist track, “Stay Young, Go Dancing” appears as the final track on the album because, according to an interview with Gibbard, he was almost too afraid to release such an unabashedly upbeat song.  But I for one am glad he did.  And I’m even more pleased that he also made this music video, featuring the happy couple obeying the song by kicking up their heels in an old fashioned stable.  It just feels equestrian!
