Opening Day at the Empire Polo Club
For music lovers the world around, the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California, are known as the magical location of the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. But us horse fanatics know that, as the name suggests, these fields are also home to some fabulous polo matches. So let the games begin!
Starting this Sunday, January 5, 2014, and running through March 30th, the fields will play host to two polo games every Sunday, at 12:00 and 2:00 pm, as well as some impressive international match ups under the lights on Friday nights. You can get the full schedule here.
And, believe it or not, attending this often though of as hoity-toity sporting event can actually be quite economical. Sunday Polo games are open to the public and admission is free with a $10 dollar parking fee per a car.
If you aren’t content with just sitting on the sidelines, this year Empire Polo Club, in conjunction with Los Angeles Polo Training Center and Polo School, is also playing host to group and private polo lessons, available Tuesday through Sunday by appointment. The Polo School provides the horse and equipment for beginners, so you can just show up in your finest polo gear and get going!
