The Horse Circus

We pretend to go to the horse show but everyone really knows it’s a circus!

Bring on the clowns! And the horses too!

Every Friday Counter-Canter Culture features the important US and International Horse Shows currently under way.

2013 Holiday & Horses Competition

This week the 2013 Holiday & Horses Competition at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC) kicks off six exciting weeks of festive shows in sunny Wellington, Florida.  Spectators will be treated to a $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby to be held on Sunday afternoon and a World Cup qualifying, $50,000 Grand Prix on Saturday night under the lights.

Last year nineteen-year-old, Harvard student Katie Dinan and Grant Road Partners’ Nougat Du Vallet impressively took top honors in the Grand Prix, edging out veterans Todd Minikus and Margie Engle, who finished second and third respectively.  Check out her winning round!

For the first time this year, dressage will also be a part of Holiday & Horses, hosting two days of national competition on Saturday and Sunday, November 30 and December 1, 2013, at the dressage facility at The Stadium at PBIEC, home to the Adequan Global Dressage Festival.   This new event features a full schedule of classes for horses and riders and is level two USEF/USDF rated, a Great American/USDF Regional Championship Qualifier, and Dover Medal Adult Amateur program event.

So, if your in or around Florida this time of year, be sure to head to Holiday & Horses, for hunters, jumpers, dressage, and of course, this awesome Christmas tree!
