We pretend to go to the horse show but everyone really knows it’s a circus!
Bring on the clowns! And the horses too!
2013 Alltech National Horse Show
More than just horses will be jumping at the Alltech National Horse Show this weekend. Since the show was relocated from Madison Square Gardens to the Kentucky Horse Park in 2011, the show managers have been trying to come up with creative new ways to get horse jumping fans to Lexington for the event.
What unique additions will there be this year? First up are demonstrations by American Parkour. Parkour is a sport that features acrobatics in an urban environment, requiring the athletes to navigate walls, buildings, fences and any other obstacles that arise. Production manager Brian Lookabill promises, “They’ll definitely amaze!”
Even more exciting for the Counter-Canter Culture team is the inclusion of Dueling DJs in between classes. The DJs will perform at once, playing off of each other to offer music and a visual entertainment during the night events. We would love to see how the crowd receives this musical element!
Of course, the horses will be the centerpieces of the event, with the International Open Jumpers competing for $530,000 in prize money, the top rated hunter sections have a total purse of $205,000, and $100,000 being offered to the Amateur/Owner and Junior Jumpers. There is also a $50,000 Puissance title up for grabs.
If you can’t make it to the show, you can catch the highlights as well as live coverage of the Saturday evening Grand Prix on the USEF Network at www.usefnetwork.com.
